I was fascinated when Babeland provided the Laid D.1 for evaluation because I had never heard of the “Laid” business before. It is a fairly fresh Norway-based company1 and it looked promising in its sleek designs. I must confess, I’ve been drawn in mostly because it’s based in Europe, and I really like the two European sex toy businesses I know about2.
The D.1 is a medium-sized silicone dildo which is sold as a G-spotter; its resistance piece is its asymmetrical head which offers a rounded surface as well as a pointed surface to boost your G-spot. You can allegedly switch with a soft twist between them. It’s also bright blue! Seriously, there is a need for more companies to move away from purple and pink and integrate bright candy colors into their product lines.
Unfortunately, in reality, its revolutionary structure does not work so well. Using it was pretty unintuitive for me, and finding my G-spot with it took me a while, even though I managed after a while. There wasn’t much difference between the two surfaces I could feel; except I could tell when the pointy side wasn’t on my G-spot because I could feel it scratching my vaginal walls. I also attempted the “handle” end, but to find it pleasurable was too pointy for me. Since the surface is so soft, it also makes things very rapidly slippery if I get lube on the handle or on my side, which makes it hard to maneuver the dildo.
I’ve discovered designs that really work for me during my long toy review stint; and maybe I’m just being inflexible, but now that I understand what works, I’m reluctant to deviate a lot from it. For G-spotting, I like the Lelo Gigi or Lelo Ella’s wide, flattened head and the Pure Wand or Ophoria No. 3’s large, ball-like head. At first, the blunt-head style took some maneuvering, but felt incredible once I got the hold of it, and almost immediately the ball-head style smoothed in on my G-spot. Both styles were more efficient than the D.1. And I prefer toys that are heavily textured (e.g. the Tantus Echo) when I don’t use a dildo to boost my G-spot while the D.1 is completely smooth.
However? I’m extremely fascinated by the Laid D.1 Stone made of–get this–Black Norwegian Moonstone, or Blue Pearl Larvikite. It is absolutely beautiful. Damn, instead I should have attempted to look at this one. Okay, it’s precisely the same shape as the one in silicone, but perhaps the fabric would somehow enhance on it?
Anyway, you can wash it with 10 percent bleach solution to sterilize the Laid D.1, put it in the top shelf of the dishwasher without soap, or boil it for at least 5 minutes. There is also no compatibility of silicone toys with silicone lubes.
I think I understand what I like, and that’s not Laid D.1. But it’s a well-made dildo, and maybe it’s better than mine to fit your requirements.
- It introduced its first products in 2010.
